Remember this?
Yes, my first bout with Covid.
It was AWFUL. I had hoped to never get it again. But, I did. It was very different, but still bad. I just got over it, and this time it only took a few days for the rough stuff to pass. Now I can say that I had Covid the whole first week of 2024.
Saturday BEFORE Day 1
Ben started feeling bad around 5pm, right before we head out to a dinner party. We thought it was allergies so we went anyway. By 7pm he was headed home to take some sinus medicine and climb in bed. I stayed and had a good time!
Sunday, Ben’s Day 1
We stayed home from church. Ben went to the walk in clinic, and tested positive for Covid. He spent the rest of the day (and night) upstairs in front of the tv covered in more than a few blankets. I helped as much as I could with ibuprofen, tylenol, and food, but he slept most of the time.
Monday, Ben’s Day 2
I went into work for a few hours so Ben could just rest. The whole day was really a blur, as I started feeling bad myself. Ben was still wrapped up in his blankets and sleeping a lot. He felt so bad, and there was only one thing I could do… order take out. I ordered some soup via Uber Eats, and for the next few days, Uber Eats and Door Dash became our friends.
Tuesday, Ben’s Day 3
Tracie’s Day 1
Ben started to come out of his covid daze today, and I felt myself going into it. I knew for sure that I had it. It ALMOST felt like the flu… achey and feverish… but different. My temp didn’t get above 100 and I didn’t get really, really cold like Ben did.
Wednesday, Ben’s Day 4
Tracie’s Day 2
Ben felt so much better on his Day 4. He still had a headache and his sinuses were going crazy, but all in all he was better. Me, on the other hand… I was in the throws of covid lethargy. I remember this last time too. I seriously didn’t want to watch tv, or get on my computer, or even my phone. I didn’t want to talk to anyone or sit up in the bed or drink water (anything for that matter), or take medicine, which Ben made me do anyway. So I lay there all day and night for two days with a major headache and feeling like it was the end of my world.
Thursday, Ben’s Day 5
Tracie’s Day 3
Ben’s day 5 was almost normal, except for the sinus stuff lingering. He was winded easily, but no fever. This was my second day doing absolutely nothing. I stayed in the bed for a solid 2 1/2 days, and felt like I was going to die or my head was going to pop.
Friday, Ben’s Done
Tracie’s Day 4
On this day, there was only a bit of sinus for Ben. He tired easily, but he was almost a new person. I felt like I was coming out of the worst of it but still had a big headache. We streamed a lot of movies and tv this day. Also, for some reason, my sinus went haywire. Worse than Ben’s was, and it lasted the whole next week. It almost felt flu-ish… achey and feverish again. I was so tired from the covid and I couldn’t really hear and just felt off. No amount of blowing my nose made it any better.
Saturday, Tracie’s Day 5
I felt so much better but my head was still about to pop, and I still felt like I was in a barrel when I talked. Went to the walk in clinic near the house and she said it was the leftover covid and that it would clear up on it’s own. Ugh.
Sunday, Tracie’s Done
No fever, no headache, no body aches. Just exhaustion, sneezing, and blowing my raw nose. Tried to work some this day. It didn’t last long.
I have never been so happy to be done with covid this go around. I was tired and my head was stuffed up the rest of the week, but I got better.
Ya know, I’ve heard people say that covid has basically turned into a flu type illness, and I’m still not sold on that. When I’ve had covid, my mind is even affected. Other than with covid, there’s only been one other time that I felt like I was going to die, for real. Some people get through it in a few days, like Ben. Then there’s me, who is so lethargic that I can’t function. Flu doesn’t affect your brain like covid does. Well, mine anyway.
Also, if you’re wondering, no one from the dinner party got covid, thank goodness.
Y’all stay safe and healthy!
