Well, Ben and I just finished Game of Thrones.
4 weeks, 8 seasons.
I had heard a LOT about it before we started, and I knew some things that would happen. I had also heard how some GoT fans were VERY disappointed in the ending.
STOP NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS.
I must say, it might be the best tv series I have ever seen. The writing was incredible and the characters were just phenomenal. The music and sound effects literally made the whole show so much better. It had me on the edge of my seating knowing, waiting for something to happen.
Really, the whole series was just... incredible. The actors that played the HATED characters were so good at being bad! There were times when I would think 'if he doesn't die I'm going to stop watching'. But the good characters were so good at being good that I knew I would have to see the whole series through to the end. My favorite duo was The Hound and Arya (below). They were the most unlikely pairing of the whole series and played off each other perfectly.
Sidenote: The whole show, including the video above, is full of strong graphics and expletives. And there's quite of bit of nudity and sexuality in the series. So be aware if and when you start watching it.
I really see what all the hype was about, but I'm so glad we waited to watch it all in one stretch. Because... and this gets me to my soap box... I'd have been upset, too, if I had watched episode after episode, week after week, season after season to get to that ending.
The ending would have been PERFECT, in my opinion, if they had just shut the whole think off after Jon killed Daenerys and Drogon flew off with her. Just cut it right there. We didn't really need to know anything else after that much war. I don't think we needed to go through the whole appoint a king, etc. Because by then, Jon, THE MAIN CHARACTER and the one who carried most of the show (in my opinion), the HERO, for crying out loud, who had thought he was a bastard his whole life and really NEEDED something good to happen to him, had the WORST ending of any character in this show or any other show I've ever seen. I think I would rather he die than be punished for something he shouldn't have been punished for in the first place.
I've heard the books were great reads and were much more detailed than the show. I probably won't read them just because I've seen the show. I normally don't 'watch after I read' or 'read after I watch' for some reason.
Have y'all seen it? What do you think?
