I’M GOING GRAY! Does that mean I’m old?

Old? Ha! ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I’m only 53!

I started going gray early, though… like 20 or 21 years old. By that time I had already covered up my frizzy brunette crowning glory and made it a wild shade of red that changed with my mood every 5 or 6 weeks for the next 30+ years!

One day in December 2018, I was perusing Instagram. Even though it’s used by thousands and thousands of people, I was still fairly new to it and I found it fascinating. I was following artists, and women who had beautiful houses on display every day, exercise gurus …tons of random people, when I came upon a group of ladies that always used the hashtag SilverSisters…. #SilverSisters. I started doing some research and it was unbelievable the amount of women that had stopped coloring their hair and were letting their natural gray locks shine through! These women were all over the world! Had it really become acceptable to let your gray hair shine through?! I was amazed. And thrilled! And had just become very determined…to do it myself.

In a split second, I decided I would stop coloring my hair. And honestly, I’ve never once regretted it. I miss my red, I do. But do you know how FREEING it is to just be yourself and decide not to worry about what other people think of you? Going gray can make you feel like a million bucks!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been one shade of red or another. Mahogany, Dark Cherry, Bright Auburn… I just loved any red I could find in a box.

These days I’m living my best life, married to the same sweet man for 27 years, 3 awesome boys that have become Godly men, and a daughter in law that I adore. And silver shining through all the leftover red and brown.

They say you’re only as old as you feel. I may be 53, but I don’t feel old. I DO, however, like this stage of life. It’s more laid back, less hectic. No running here nor there every day. And I never have to color my hair again.

Yep. I think I’ll stay this way for a while.
