Kidney Interrupted – Life Is Graphic

I’ve got a picture or two that will show you how big my kidneys were when they finally failed. They had served me well. By the looks of them, they had over-served. They were due a long rest. Preferably in an extremely high-tech research facility to ward this devastating disease from continuing on through time. And, my family.

They were as big as footballs…each one of them! I am by no means bragging. The sheer weight of them alone, in my mid section, kind of dragged me down.

I recently had a message from a dear kidney sister saying she has PKD and her liver was afflicted as well as her kidneys. PKD can affect all organs as far as I know. From my understanding kidneys and liver are the most common.

In some cases, liver cysts can be aspirated, but, kidneys can not. Thus the need for dialysis and, eventually, transplantation.

Below are pictures of diseased kidneys and livers. They might be graphic but, hey, so is life. This gives people a clearer understanding of the way PKD devastates an organ.

Are you a member of the PKD community? Please comment about your journey and how it has changed your life. I really want people to learn and benefit from this blog. Also, never to feel alone in this way of life we share.

Let’s come together! 💚
