I published this post back in 2016. Although there are other scary movies that have made their way onto my tv in the past three years, this is a good reminder of movies to start off this awesome month!
Happy October!!!
October has always been my favorite month. Yes, December runs a close second, but I love when the leaves start changing colors and the air gets a little cooler and crisp and Fall sets in. Of course, my favorite holiday is also in October. YES, HALLOWEEN!
Since I was a child and learned what it was like to scare and be scared, I’ve loved it. I don’t do crazy things…. tricks that are NOT funny. Just a ‘boo’ here and there to keep a few people closest to me on their toes. Fall/Halloween decorations are so much fun too….a ghost lit up in the window…pumpkins cut into Jack-O-Lanterns on the doorstep. Love. It.
For years my sisters and I have gotten together with some of our closest friends the weekend before Halloween to sit up late and watch scary movies. For a long time, we would try to out-scare each other. Then as we got older and our kids started growing up, the anticipation of someone scaring you spoils the fun… so we decided to stop scaring each other altogether.
Here are some of our favorite hauntingly scary movies that we’ve watched several times over. Now, these are NOT the gory slasher movies that are so popular these days. These movies might send a little chill up your spine or make the hair stand up on your neck. For a minute anyway. They’re older movies which, to me, make for a spookier time. Most of the new ones are just jump-out-and-kill movies. That’s no fun. Check out these trailers below!
Carnival of Souls (1962)
Halloween (1978)
The Changeling (1980) – My personal favorite.
The Shining (1980)
Ghost Story (1981)
Children of the Corn (1984)
Lady in White (1988)
Darkness Falls (2003)
1408 (2007)
The Orphanage (2007)
The Woman in Black (2012)
Mama (2013)
The Conjuring (2013)
Anabelle (2014)
We haven’t seen…
The Witch (2015)
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
but I’m sure looking forward to seeing them soon.
There are plenty more great creepy movies that are worth watching. These are just some of the ones we watch over and over.
Let us know what scary movies you watch!
*Disclaimer – We believe that a movie is just that. A movie. We believe that watching a scary movie may include screaming, laughing, pointing at the screen, loud comments, talking, more screaming and more laughing. We know how to discern between the true and untrue. Everything we watch is a product of Hollywood. And not everyone is going to find a scary movie or ghost story around a fire pit fun and we respect that.
What a fun story!
