What’s Christmas REALLY about?

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to get into the spirit of Christmas, there’s just no way of getting there. Marked by obsessive shopping for last minute gifts, dwindling budgets, family dysfunction or loss, and making sure your kids remember why we have Christmas at all. That it’s not about the gifts.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s a gift. But not from that jolly ole elf, whether you call him Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, Father Christmas(UK), Dun Che Lao Ren(China), or Pere Noel(France).

There’s so much happening in our world today that celebrating Christmas is the last thing on the minds of some people. While happy Christmas images fill storefronts, magazines, television ads and movies, for some it’s just not enough to cheer them up. To bring them JOY.

So, what is Christmas REALLY about? Do you know?

To a lot of people….

Faith.

Truth.

Hope.

Love.

When I was a child, Mom took me and my sisters to church every Sunday. We grew up learning about the unconditional love that waited for us. I remember learning about the birth of Jesus and memorizing those verses in Luke. They’ve stuck with me ever since.

Luke 2: 7-14 ~ And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (KJV)

Christmas, although the actual date truly isn’t known, is about a baby named Jesus, who came to save us.

This is a great Christmas movie to watch about the birth of Jesus.

Jesus really is the reason for the season!

Have a Merry Christmas friends!
